Print Lamination Types
Lamination is a process where a protective layer of material (often plastic) is bonded to the outer parts of your custom printed scratch poster.
Laminated posters have added durability and tensile strength, as well as having a pleasant aesthetic that is hard to achieve otherwise.
The two most popular lamination types for scratch off posters are silk and matt. Read more about them below.
When it comes to the finishing options for your printed latex scratch off posters, should you choose silk or matt? Let’s find out…

Silk Lamination
Silk lamination is probably the most popular choice for any given printed product, as is certainly the most used for scratch off poster designs.
Silk laminate provides a smooth, silky texture and appearance, with a slight sheen. This works very well for scratch off posters as it contrasts to the matter latex panels.
Silk laminate also gives colours a bit of additional vibrancy, making them ‘pop’ more on your poster design.
Matt Lamination
Matt lamination has the opposite effect to silk laminated posters. Matt is not shiny at all, giving your poster more of an elegant aesthetic.
Matt is also pleasant to touch, as it feels ‘soft’ (though not as soft as the aptly name ‘Soft Touch’ lamination).
With matt laminated posters, colours appear with a lower contrast, offering a more subtle appearance. .
Other lamination types…
We use silk or matt laminate on our custom printed scratch off posters. However, here’s a short description of the other types of lamination you may find on your travels:
Gloss: Glossy, high shine, colours ‘popping’ BUT tears and fingerprints appear very visible.
Soft-Touch: like matt but with a velvety, smooth feel.
Anti-Graffiti: uses repellents to stop spray paint sticking to your product
Dry-wipe: allows you to write and erase with dry-wipe pens
Large format: for large scale products, very practical.
