Scratch Off Latex
Scratch off latex (also referred to as rub removable or scratch off ink) is an opaque ink which conceals the image or text below until you’re ready to reveal it.
We use scratch off latex in your scratch posters – providing a fun and interactive way of tracking your goals and achievements. If you want to learn more about how scratch off latex works, you’ve come to the right place! Read our handy guide and learn all there is to know about rub removable ink!
Please note: scratch off latex hardens over time. As such, we recommend you use your scratch poster within 6 months of ordering.
The process:
- You can apply scratch off latex to posters printed both digitally and lithographically.
- Once the printed poster design is finished, a lottery release seal is applied directly onto the areas that will need to be scratched off eventually.
- When this seal is dry, we apply the scratch off ink. This ink can be easily scratched off with a coin or fingernail. We can also add lamination on top of the latex.
- Some designs feature overpinting – here the poster is put back through the printing press and a black overprint is created on top of the scratch off latex.
- Please note – latex hardens over time. Use your product within 6 months of ordering.
Potential pit falls
Sometimes, scratch off latex appears cracked or flakey. We ensure this doesn’t happen by:
- Allowing plenty of drying time. The key to achieving a smooth finish for the scratch off latex is to ensure the printed poster is fully dried before the lottery release seal is applied.
- Using the correct paper type – uncoated paper is unsuitable for scratch off latex inks due to its absorbency. We make sure to use the best paper type for the finished product!
